Song I
Your body stretches before me,
And it’s all I can do not to go blind.
Your naked horizon overwhelms me,
As the end begins.
Devouring words to caption you,
I've eaten the last page of the dictionary,
And now I'm vomiting all over this paper,
And I’ll never be able to write you
Before throwing up my last word.
What was the promise you made me?
No promising words ever slipped from your lips.
Yet every time you spread your lips over me,
You said something I never quite heard.
Now those words like tinnitus ring in my head,
And it’s all I can hear.
The echo of the unheard haunts my ears,
Ringing like an unanswered phone.
A call made from another time and place,
Unfamiliar numbers dialed by familiar fingers: MAin1469.
I finger my cell to stop the ringing,
But it's dead,
And I wonder if you are too.
You always played in the road,
Ran with scissors in your hands,
And swam during high tide.
Always playing too hard,
Running too fast,
Drinking too much,
Fucking too fully,
Not chewing enough.
Circling a drain that could never swallow you,
For don’t all drains lead to the sea?
