Let’s just say, you’ll have your hands full.

Next Week: “Tonight, I Want to Be Gay”

Check back later next week for a link to my story “Tonight, I Want to be Gay,” which goes live as a free read at Lyd on Friday, August 29th.  It is a piece of flash fiction, but the short form really helped me isolate the story’s single effect, and it’s one of my favorites.

Log Line: A local guy happens upon a college boy, who feels a little queer after a few beers, and the two cross paths in this story that explores the gay line running through the town/gown relations in a major American college town.

Blurb: Colleges boast of their ability to train young men, but there are some lessons that can only be learned through experience.  For these, a young man finds he must take to the streets to learn what his professors cannot teach him.  This is when gown meets town, and when you live in a college town, you often find yourself playing tutor in a college student’s extracurricular activities.  Sometimes it’s just an experiment or is it really something more?

Excerpt: In the shadows of Yale University, there is whole other place called New Haven. This is where I live and work, but sometimes, it’s hard to escape the fact you live in a college town, and sometimes, you really don’t want to.

One night while on my way to the York Street Café, a young guy caught my eye.  He walked slowly as if breaking in a new pair of shoes, and I figured this Yalie had recently been shopping at J. Press.  Descending the stairs and watching a girl watch her boyfriend watch me from the window of the trendy Bangkok Garden Thai restaurant that overlooks the bar’s entrance, I heard someone whisper: “Tonight, I want to be gay.”

Turning around and walking back up the stairs, I said, “Well, it’s the least I can do.”

Without making eye contact, the floppy haired Yalie spun around and walked directly in front of me, pausing just long enough to whisper: “Tonight, I want to be gay.”

“Then we should go drinking and dancing,” I called after him as his beer breath wafted around me.

Without breaking his stride, he looked over his shoulder and said: “Meet me at the corner of Park and Crown.”

A few minutes later, I pulled up to the intersection of Park and Crown Streets, and I did not have to wait long before my curious student ran out from the shadows, jumped in my truck, and ordered: “I don’t want to be seen with you—just drive away.”

Accelerating rapidly, the truck jerked forward as I replied, “I can do that.”

I pulled onto the highway as he placed his hand on my knee: “Tonight, I want to see what gay guys—like you—do.”

Yaoi Magazine?

This is the latest cover for Yaoi Magazine.  Are you familiar with it or another Yaoi magazine?  If so, I would appreciate your sharing your insights/comments.  I am looking to subscribe to one, but I am not sure which one would be best.

Overall, I would be most interested in a magazine that covers original Japanese titles and OEL.  I would also be interested in a magazine the provided a range of material like reviews, fan art, articles, maybe even a serial?  As I am very interested in the Yaoi invasion of America, I would not mind an OEL focused magazine, but ideally, I would prefer something with broader content.

I am also wondering how these magazines work.  If the various Yaoi publishers publish them (as I believe they do), then does this mean they only feature/promo their own titles in their magazines?

I would really appreciate hearing what folks have to say.  Comment here or email me at deckerotica at gmail dot com.

The View from Chicago

I am in Chicago for a wedding, and this is the view out of my favorite hotel room so far this trip.  The picture does not do it justice, but from my spot on the 26th floor, I can see the lake, river, and skyline.  So far, I have not written a word as I had hoped I would be able to, but I am getting quite a bit of reading in.

This is only my second time in Chicago, but it is a great city. I have city envy over its modernity and multi-layered topography.  I highly recommend the architecture boat tour.  I have also visited my favorite noodle spot Joy’s Noodles, and I picked up several books at one of my favorite gay bookstores Unabridged, which is only two doors down from Joy’s.  There I picked up several out of print titles at a great price, and I also picked up a copy of Patrick Moore’s “Tweaked,” which I am currently reading and cannot put down.

While in Boystown, I stopped off to have a drink at Roscoe’s–one of my favorite bars in the gayborhood.  There were several hotties there, but I was distracted by my bag o’books, so I just flipped through them as I sipped my beer.  However, I was flattered by the hottie at the end of the bar, and I sure noticed his eye play, but I was kinda busy with my books.  Plus, my bf stopped in for a drink, so what’s a girl to do?

Speaking of hotties, Chicago is loaded with’em?  What’s up with that?  I find the Chicago manscape to be similar to Canada re: the mixture of masculinity and metrosexuality.  The boys in Chicago are neatly groomed, but they also keep it masculine, if a bit too sporto frat boy.  Nonetheless, my tongue has been wagging nonstop.

AP Reports: Hate Crimes Against Gays Rise in L.A.

I would like to dedicate this post as a cautionary reminder to every gay man who tells or has told me things have changed for GLBT people, especially in our open, modern, liberal urban areas, and that the concerns surrounding GLBT oppression and homophobia are not such an issue anymore.

On July 28, 2008 the AP reported “Hate Crimes Against Gays Rise in L.A.”:
“Hate crimes in Los Angeles County soared last year to their highest mark in five years even as overall crime dropped across the region, according to a report released Thursday.  The annual report by the county’s human relations commission shows 763 hate crimes were reported in 2007, a 28 percent increase from 2006.”
Among the article’s discussion of the report’s findings, there is this tidbit of interest to our contemporary GLBT community:
“The commission said 111 hate crimes based on sexual orientation were reported, a 9 percent increase from 2006; more than 90 percent were against gay men.”
The article further illuminates this number by stating a very disturbing trend:
“According to the U.S. Justice Department, for every hate crime that is reported to police, as many as 28 are not reported, often for fear of retaliation or concerns about talking to authorities.”
The article aptly directs us toward one of the omnipresent fulcrums behind such changes in the rate of hate crime violence:
“When economic times gets tighter, hate crime violence goes up,” she said, adding that child abuse and domestic violence often increase for the same reason.”
And, this is not something we should ever loose site of, for progression is prone to regression.

These findings reveal the lie of the gay urban utopia myth, and they remind us to be wary of our complacent and privileged positions, and in doing so, we are also reminded to not confuse the state of our larger GLBT community with our individual lives and experiences.

As this report makes clear, hate crimes are once again on the rise, and gays are once again–as they always have been–a constitutive part of the minority class. Read the complete article at 365gay.com.

Sneak Peek - “Brokeback Realities”

Brokeback Thumb Check back this Friday for a link to “Brokeback Realities.”  Come read what they didn’t tell you about men like Ennis del Mar.

Since I have already posted an excerpt from the story in a pior post, I thought I would offer a futher peek into the story with this additional blurb:

As soon as I crossed the threshold, he slammed the door behind me, and immediately, I heard the sounds of unbuckling and unzipping, and according to those sounds, everything was going exactly as it should, but before I could get the feel of the darkened room, he grabbed the back of my head, threw me down to my knees, and shoved his cock so far to the back of my throat it immediately began triggering my gag reflex.  As I gagged, I realized who I was with, but at this point, Boxer already had me.

He kept his hand to the back of my head, which kept my lips to the base of his cock, and his cock head at the back of my throat. As I continued to gag, a mixture of saliva, stomach acid, and pre-cum began to drool out the sides of my mouth.  I attempted to balance my weight between my knees, but given the force with which he was thrusting his cock down my throat, I was able to do little more than dangle from his cock like some impaled rag doll.

Look for the full story to be released July 18th.  Meanwhile, fan me to receive updates at Facebook.
