Story Posted for August: Dancer in the Dance
The story for August is now posted and ready for reading. An old friend once referred to the homoage, as in homage. Since then, I have found this to be something I have kept in mind. This is also a very apt word for characterizing August’s story, which is obviously inspired by Andrew Holleran’s novel Dancer from the Dance. My homoage is titled Dancer in the Dance.
Here’s an excerpt from one of my favorite passages:
“Night after night, I imagined him falling on top of me and grinding with me in the garden: the weight of his body on mine, his chest wet with sweat, his hands caked with dirt, and my lips and hips rising up to meet him. Instead, after these evenings and back at home, I would sit alone in bed, picturing this scene as I touched myself. As seeds go, I spent a generation’s worth pleasuring myself with thoughts of him. My response to the guys on the swim team had long since shown me I was gay. However, this, my garden romance, was not about actualization; it was about communion. So evening after evening, whenever the façade of laughter presented itself in the veiled safety of our garden, I dropped to my knees before him.”
